FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s included in the rental cost?
Taxes, insurance, and 100 miles/day. Camping, cooking, and sleeping gear, even propane. Road atlases, trip planning assistance, and parking for your car.

How do I make a reservation?
To check availability or make your reservation please call or WhatsApp us at +1 207-240-6146, or email us at Info@MaineCampers.com.

Can you recommend any campgrounds?
Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont all have good State Park systems. Some of our favorite Maine State Parks are Camden Hills, Rangeley, and Lily Bay. We also recommend Winslow Park & Campground and Recompence Shore Campground at Wolfe’s Neck Farm. Several customers liked Hermit Island Campground. And, of course, you don’t want to miss Acadia National Park.

Can you suggest an itinerary?
Most folks planning to camp for a week typically follow one of three itineraries:

1. Meander up the Maine coast to Bar Harbor and back exploring the islands, peninsulas, and fishing villages south of US Route 1.
2. Split their time between the coast and the White Mountains in New Hampshire.
3. Spend a couple of nights in Vermont after traveling the coast and the Whites.

Should we bring sleeping bags?
Some folks do but it’s not necessary. We provide pillows, sheets, and blankets.

How much fuel does the camper use?
Expect about 18 miles per US gallon, or 13 liters per 100 kms, on average. Our customers have reported 15-23 MPG, or 10-15.7 liters/100 kms. Your mileage will depend on how you drive, the terrain, the loaded weight of the camper, headwinds, and other factors.

Can I drive the camper to Canada?
Sorry, no. We no longer allow our vans to be taken into Canada.

Can I bring a dog?
Well-behaved dogs are welcome if their owners promise to return the camper clean and in good condition. Otherwise cleaning and damage fees may apply.

How early should I make reservations?
We sell out every year so the earlier the better. A 50% deposit is required to make a reservation. We begin accepting reservation deposits in January.

Can I get my deposit back if I cancel my trip?
No. Deposits are non-refundable. We recommend you buy trip insurance if you think you may have to cancel.

Is there a charge if we exceed the total mileage for our trip?
Yes. You’re allowed 100 miles/day times the number of days of your rental. Mileage beyond the total allowance is charged at $0.35/mile.
